Day 9 & 10 - The End of the Journey - Ladakh 2013!

Image
Our trip was now coming to an end. Months of planning and re-planning, and this was it, the final day of the trip. Tomorrow we leave back for Delhi. But, before that - we still had one day left. The plan for today was to relax, roam around in the local market, get some souvenirs and Pashminas for the ladies back home :) The day began leisurely with some delicious Masala Cheese Omelette and hot tea! Arun and Bhavna decided not to have the breakfast at the guest house. So, we wandered out and started searching for some good breakfast options. After, a little search we zeroed in on a restaurant and got over with the breakfast quickly. Up ahead was shopping! Probably the toughest job a guy can be asked to do. And, if you are in the market for ladies stuff, be prepared to get totally confused. We thankfully had two ladies with us, who helped us select the Pashmina shawl and in the end we zeroed in on a shop from where we together bought around 10 Pashmina Shawls and Stoles. :D Surpri...

Day 8 - The Journey back to Leh from Hunder!

Today, we leave back for Leh. The plan was to stop at Diskit along the way and then at Khardung La. Everyone woke up on time, after a much needed sleep after the tiring journey yesterday. The weather was fantastic, clear blue skies and nice breeze blowing. Time for the cameras to come out :p The moon at 7:30 AM- And, that's the Sun at 7:30 AM - And, some amateur photography as well :p We dressed up and got ready for the breakfast. The Breakfast was again served in an authentic setting - Hot tea with Ladakhi Bread and Butter-Jam. After the delicious breakfast, we were asked by the Owner's son AB Dar, our host to fill up a Testimonial book. And, we had only nice words to write. He also asked us to write down our Names and Phone numbers - his explanation sometimes enquiries are done by the authorities, and they have to show them who all came and stayed there, and we obliged. Before leaving - a Pic with AB! And, with a wonderful stay here coming to an ...

Day 7 - Nubra Valley

Image
After the river rafting adventure, we were back to our normal schedule. 26th July, Friday - we leave for Nubra Valley today. The plan was to leave around 9, go to Panamik ,visit the Monastery in Sumur, then see the sand dunes of Hunder and the Bactrian camels and then retire for the day at the guest house. The drive to Nubra valley started almost on time. We will be passing through the highest motorable road (apparently its not, nonetheless at an altitude close to 18,000 ft it is high, very high!) at Khardung La today. The approach till Khardung La is quite good, with road widening work going on at some places. The first stoppage was at South Pullu for permits. Signboard at South Pullu - It was amazing to see such signboards at numerous places. At such high altitudes, where even breathing is a luxury, these guys (BRO) make roads and make life easier for the travellers. And, to top that - they provide a Road Complaint register too :) And, I am more than a 100% sure, there w...
